Carol-Angela Orchard and
Brian McVey will retire from
Toronto's Sports Seneca return
to top

following the end of the 2008 season
— concluding a coaching career that
spanned 11 World Championships and
four Olympic Games.
Orchard will be moving to Great Britain
in September to be with fiancé Eddie
Van Hoof, 1984 Olympian and men's
technical director at British Gymnastics,
while McVey plans to move to Panama,
Sport Seneca stated.
"For more than 31 years, Brian and
Carol-Angela created a dynamic and
incredibly successful coaching
partnership that reflected the love and
passion they both shared for the sport
of gymnastics," the club stated.
The coaching duo over the past three
decades, including Olympians Monica
Covacci, Luisa Portocarrero and
Michelle Conway and world team
members Koyuki Oka, Leah Homma,
Lydia Williams and Elyse Hopfner-
Hibbs.
The Sport Seneca gymnasts have also
made their mark with originality; the FIG
named elements after Oka,
Portocarrero (two skills) and Homma
(three skills).
Hopfner-Hibbs made history at the 2006
Championships in Aarhus, Denmark,
when she won the bronze on balance
beam, the first world medal for
Canadian woman.
Orchard and McVey also coach junior
Peng-Peng Lee, who will continue
training under Sport Seneca coaches
Lawson Hamer and Lisa Cowan.
At the Elite Canada competition in
December, Lee debuted a beam routine
with a 7.3 A-score that included a back
handspring to full twist series, a tucked
barani and a front double full dismount.
Orchard said the routine is already
difficult enough to use between 2009
and 2012.

The rules of good nutrition are
quite simple. Consume
adequate food and fluid before,
during, and after training or
competition to help maintain
blood glucose levels during
performance, maximize
performance, and improve
recovery time. Athletes should
be well hydrated before training
or competition and they should
also drink enough fluid during
and after to balance fluid losses.
CAC's Sport Nutrition program is
designed to offer athletes,
coaches, and parents access to
nutrition tips, tools, and advice
as well as access to sport
nutrition professionals in order
to ensure good health and
optimal athletic performance.
All
our Coaching Staff are certified through the National Coaching
Certification Program (N.C.C.P) and are members of Gymnastics
Ontario.
